Autumn Extravaganza
Autumn is a perfect time to visit Alaska, the birch trees turn a stunning gold and the tundra is ablaze in a sea of red. Moose and caribou have shed their antler's velvet and skies are usually clear and deep blue. Amidst this background of brilliant color we will travel from Anchorage up the Parks Highway to Denali National Park where we will bus through one of the best wildlife viewing areas in North America to Wonder Lake. Moose, Dall sheep, caribou and grizzly bears are usually seen on this trip. Of course, if Mt. McKinley is out, the view of mountain alone is worth the trip.We will spend a couple of days in this area then travel across the rustic Denali Highway to Tangle Lakes, another great area for spectacular scenery and wildlife viewing.
Wrangell-St. Elias is a gem in the national Park Service system and our trip through McCarthy to the historic ghost town of Kennicott puts us in the middle of it. The richest concentration of copper ore in the world was found here and an entire company town was developed around it, including a massive 14 story processing mill. Our time in Kennicott will include a guided tour of the old town buildings and a trip onto the Root Glacier.
From Kennicott we will travel past glaciers and rugged mountains through spectacular Thompson Pass and into picturesque Valdez. Often called Alaska's Switzerland, Valdez became world famous as the termination point for the Alyeska pipeline and the site of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. The effects of the spill have long since vanished and Prince William Sound is as spectacular and beautiful as before. Glaciers, whales, sea otters, and eagles are common sights throughout the Sound.
This is a custom tour that we organize by request for our clients. Please contact us if you would like to discuss cost and available dates for this tour.
