TOP 10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD BOOK WITH ALASKA IDITAROD TOURS
1. We are specialists in what we do.
We are not a multi-purpose travel agency offering Iditarod tours as part of their many tour offerings. Our company was formed from a desire to bring clients out to the McGrath checkpoint and allow them a chance to experience life in "Bush Alaska" and intermingle with the mushers and race personnel. Over the years we have added other sections to the tour, usually at the request of clients who have wanted to return and experience other sections of the race, and now offer the fullest range of Iditarod tours available.
2. Experience and knowledge.
We have spent many hours dogmushing along the Iditarod Trail and have competed in mid-distance races up to 200 miles in length on it. We are intimately familiar with the race and trail as well as having decades worth of experience living in the McGrath area and being Iditarod Race volunteers. You won't find a tour company with more experience and knowledge about the Iditarod Race than ours.
3. Smaller is better
Our tours usually have 10 -15 clients on them. This smaller group size allows us to give you the individual attention you may need to insure you have the best experience possible.
4. Experience the real Alaska
To experience what makes Alaska and the Iditarod race unique, you need to leave the Anchorage area and fly out to the remote villages along the race trail. Here you will have a chance to meet the miners, trappers and native people who make their lives in the Alaskan wilderness. You will get to see a different culture and lifestyle from what most of my clients are used to. We have 1st hand experience with this lifestyle and will introduce you to many of our friends in the villages, show you abandoned cabins from the gold rush days and take you out into beautiful remote areas.
5. Customer Satisfaction
Almost every year we have returning clients continuing on their Iditarod adventure with us, or revisiting a favorite portion of the race. In 2012 we had 2 returning clients do the McGrath portion for the 2nd time and 5 returning clients go to Nome with us.
6. High quality meals
Everyone looks forward to a delicious meal at the end of the day and we always eat in fine restaurants on the tours. Our clients always remark on the high quality of the meals we eat.
7. Experienced Alaskan Tour Leaders
Rich Montagna is a 30 year veteran of life in Alaska and is a trained naturalist from the University of Alaska . He is also an experienced dog musher, commercial photographer and published writer of several magazine articles about the Kuskokwim area. He will use his years of experience with the Iditarod Race and knowledge of the Alaskan environment and cultures to make sure you have a very enjoyable and informative experience.
8. Make lifelong friends
One of the biggest rewards we get from the Iditarod tours we run is bringing like minded Iditarod fans together and seeing them form friendships that last long after the tour is over. Many of our clients stay in contact with, visit and take vacations with friends they made on one of our Iditarod tours. Others stay in contact with the friends they made in the villages we stay in.
9. Travel with the original
Over the last 5-6 years there has been an explosion of tour companies offering Iditarod tours. Our tours have been copied, but never improved. Our goal is to provide our clients with the finest and most personalized Iditarod Race experience we can. From the number of returning clients we book, as well as the number of emails, cards and letters we receive from clients thanking us for the trip of a lifetime they had with us, we think we are succeeding.
10. Our Stellar Reputation
Because of the reputation we have earned over the years, many well known travel companies such as Smithsonian Journeys, Academic Expeditions, Cabelas' Outdoor Adventures, Alaska Bound and numerous travel agencies have booked their clients with us because they know they will receive 1st class treatment. We have a long list of clients who are always happy to give us glowing references and can always provide professional references from the vendors we use on our tours.
